MKB is a woman owned small business based out of Oklahoma City, OK. We are dedicated to crafting high quality, healthy and effective skin care products that nourish your skin and are kind to our planet.
Every bar of soap or lotion is made by our own two hands. We do it ourselves from start to finish. We make our soaps and lotions in small batches to avow its quality.
Our skin protects us from the hazards of our environment. Yet it also allows us to experience pain and pleasure. Our skin renews itself EVERY day. The human body will shed approximately 40 pounds of dead skin cells in the course of a lifetime.
Like a sponge, our skin absorbs chemicals. It has been reported that our skin will absorb approximately 60% of every product we smear on it. The medical industry knows this and that is why so many medicines today are given in patch form. So the problem lies in the fact that our skin absorbs synthetic and natural alike. It does not distinguish from the two. It absorbs them in equal fashion. If you take the time to read the labels on your commercial skin care products you will find a whole host of harmful chemicals. Our bodies are constantly exposed to chemicals in the air, water and food we eat. The long term effect of these chemicals is still greatly unknown.
We take great care and sometimes go to great expense to make sure that the foods we eat are “organic” or “natural”. But we have found that so many of us who take these steps in assuring themselves of the intake of only healthy nourishment, they so often ignore their skin. They treat their skin as an afterthought. Most of the ingredients in Momma Knows Best Handmade Soaps and Lotions can be found right there in your own kitchen. In fact, the way we choose which butters and oils to put in our soaps and lotions is like choosing which oils and butters to cook with. We take the same care into what we are putting INSIDE our bodies as we do in what we are putting ONTO our bodies.
Rest assured that our soaps and lotions are free of detergents, synthetic fragrances, artificial preservatives, artificial foam boosters, alcohol and petroleum products. Our soaps and lotions are biodegradable, mild, nourishing, safe and effective. Commercial soaps often have hardeners, whiteners, and lather boosters, chemical fragrances (sometimes as many as 500 separate chemical components to create their special and unique scent). When you use soap that is full of chemical additions your body starts to react – dry skin. Good skin care relies on moisture. MKB’s soaps retain the naturally forming glycerin in the soap. Glycerin is a naturally occurring by-product in the soap making process. Glycerin is a humectant (moisturizer) preventing loss of moisture thereby retaining the skin’s natural moisture. Simply put it pulls moisture from the air towards your skin. Commercial soap has the glycerin removed so that they can sell it to you as another product. (We call that double-dipping). This increases your chances of dry skin.
When you read the label on a bar of commercial soap they have disguised their ingredients by mashing words together. Such as Sodium Tallowate. Sodium Tallowate is found in most commercial soaps. WHAT IS THAT??? Lye (sodium hydroxide) has been mixed with tallow (reduced beef fat). They mixed the two words together and BINGO: Sodium Tallowate. So for all you vegans and vegetarians out there guess what you have been spreading all over your body. Yep, the thing you vowed never to consume.
