Why spend $6 for a bar of soap?  Your skin is natural.  My handmade soap is natural.  Hardeners, whiteners, lather boosters, chemical fragrances (sometimes as many as 500 separate chemical components to create their special scent) are often found in “over the counter” store-bought soap or detergent bars.  When you use soap that is full of chemical additions your body starts to react – dry skin.  Good skin care relies on moisture.  My soap retains the naturally occurring glycerin in the soap.  Glycerin is a humectant (moisturizer) preventing loss of moisture thereby retaining the skin’s natural moisture.  Simply put it pulls moisture from the air towards your skin.  Commercial soaps have the glycerin removed so that they can sell it as a separate product.  Which increases your chance of dry skin.

When you read the label on a bar of commercial soap they have disguised their ingredients by mashing words together with another ingredient and rebranding it.  Such as:  Sodium Tallowate which is found in most commercial soaps.  What is that????  Lye (sodium hydroxide) has been mixed with tallow (reduced beef fat).  They mixed the two ingredients and the two words together and came up with:  Sodium Tallowate.  So for all you vegans and vegetarians guess what you are trying to clean your body with!!!  Yep the stuff you have vowed never to consume.

I offer soaps that are gentle to the skin without the addition of unnecessary chemical fillers.  All of my soap ingredients are listed in a user friendly language – you do not need a degree in chemistry to know what is in it.

The name “lye soap” is actually a bit misleading.  The finished product actually does not contain lye, but the soap making process uses lye to chemically transform fats into soap..  The end result is a soap that cleans naturally, needing no synthetic cleansing agents.

You might be wondering: “If lye is dangerous, isn’t soap made using it harsh?” The short answer is no. As mentioned above, lye soap is made from a chemical reaction (saponification) that involves lye and fats. Careful calculations and measuring ensure that when the reaction is finished, only soap (and no lye) remains.

My soaps are made using traditional, yet modern cold process techniques. The basic method is still the same as our grandmothers and great-grandmothers used: lye + fats = soap. Unlike generations past, however, we have access to fats and oils that they never did. They made their soaps with the animal fats that they had on hand: tallow from beef or venison, lard from pork. Since we have moved away from our farming community roots, those fats are harder to come by.

Most of my soaps are made from olive oil, coconut oil, coca butter, sweet almond oil, shea butter and castor oil.  It’s the mix of oils I use that makes the soap so nice.

Each bar is $6.00.  We also offer two  9-piece sampler packs for $12.00 each.  Free shipping offered for orders of $100.00 or more within the USA.  For international orders please contact us for shipping rates.

Because our soaps are handmade the individual bars are unique and do not look alike.

SWEETNESS & LIGHT

Both men and women love this soap.  The scent of lemongrass is said to promote psychic awareness.  Clary sage is known for having properties that mimic the female hormone while lemongrass is uplifting to the spirit.  When the two are mixed togetther, it creates a blend that is said to be good for depression, PMS and menopause.  Men use it for the great smell.

SUMMER OF LOVE

Spearmint is the first thing you smell with soap.  The lavender lends a light carefree scent that mellows out the mint.  While lavender is a floral, fresh, light, herbaceous scent the spearmint lends a fresh, minty, sweet smell.  Spearmint is said to be good for stimulating and reviving as well as asthma, headache and nausea.

This is a wonderful face bar.  It has a floral, grassy, rose-like scent with a rich, earthy, woody underlying aroma.  Palmarosa and Patchouli essential oils are said to work well for wrinkles, dermatitis, hair loss, acne, PMS symptoms and athlete’s foot.  They are associated with healing and love.

WAMI

Caldendula flowers has been used for centuries to calm irritated and sensitive skin.  We have made a tea from the petals and use that instead of water for this soap.  This soap uses the essential oils of lavender and Palmarosa.  This soap has a floral, fresh, light herbaceous scent with an underlying grassy, rose-like scent.  It has been reported that these essential oils are good for insect bites, to calm the nerves and to help with sleeping as they are soothing and relaxing.  They are also associated with love and healing.

SHMELLI

The high amount of cocoa butter in this soap not only makes for a hard bar of soap but leaves the skin feeling super soft.  It does make a good lather just not the big, bubbly, frothy kind.  But when it feels this good who cares?   This soap uses the essential oils of grapefruit, lavender and cedar wood.  The grapefruit essential give this soap a citrusy scent while the lavender lends a floral, fresh, light, herbaceous sent and the cedar wood balances with a dry, sweet, woodsy balsamic scent.  These essential oils are said to be balancing, grounding and strengthening while also calming to the nerves, soothing and relaxing but with the uplifting properties of the grapefruit to help with concentration ad to promote happy thoughts.

PURPLE RAIN

Lavender seems to be the first thing people think of when they think of handmade soap.  It is the only essential oil that is used in this soap.  Lavender has a floral, fresh, light, herbaceous scent.  It is reported to be good for insect bites, calming the nerves and helping with sleep as it is soothing and relaxing.  It is said to also be good for burns, bruises, itching and headaches.

Purple Haze

This soap uses the essential oils of lavender and Patchouli.  These two essential oils work really well together.  The patchouli makes the scent of lavender stronger while adding an earthy undertone at the same time.

OUTLANDER

We have named this soap Outlander as a nod to the book series by Diana Gabaldon whose books planted the seed of homemade soap.  The large amount of herbs in this soap act as a wonderful exfoliant and the addition of honey feels great on the skin.  Spearmint is the first thing your nose will detect in this soap, but keep smelling to figure out the rest of the blend.

The heavy earthy smell of the patchouli mixed with the fresh scent of spearmint turns into a wonderful scent you would think to expect.
